Abstract: In July 2019, the Maltese government passed a series of bills creating the first comprehensive regulatory framework governing the use of blockchain technology in the world. The framework installed presents several questions concerning the effectiveness of the regulations, and whether they could successfully balance promoting businesses utilizing blockchain while still protecting consumers. Additionally, as blockchain emerges as a valuable resource around the world, other countries have the opportunity now to consider the benefits and detriments of the regulations installed in Malta as they look to create their own.
